Rockhurst Mathematics Faculty
Advisory Committee: In the last year, the Applied Math Major has been revamped, and a new Statistics Certificate is being offered. I have been involved in meeting with the outside advisory committee on what future employers look for in a mathematics major. The goal of these meetings is to help improve class offerings, professional development options for students, and the sorts of portfolios that successful students should have after participating in a Statistics Certificate program.
Curriculum Updates for Lower Division Mathematics Offerings: I was involved the selection of an update to the curriculum for Precalculus, and the Calculus series at Rockhurst. We have moved to open source textbooks, and Edfinity as an online problem system to assist with the financial burden on our students.
Grading and Course Design Discussions: We are also involved in discussions on new education research on course design and grading options. In the fall, we met to discuss Ungrading. Over the last year, we have also been discussing my colleagues’ work with mastery based grading in Calculus courses.
Mathapalooza: Mathapalooza is the Rockhurst University Math outreach program. Run by the department chair, Dr. Zdeňka Guadarrama, the program works with local schools, student organizations, and other outreach programs to offer hands on mathematics activities for students in K-12. Mathapalooza just celebrated its 10th anniversary in March 2022. I have volunteered as an assistant at a few of these outreach events, and will continue to be involved in the upcoming year.
Honors Project Supervisor: I have worked for a year supervising student projects for honors credits in my Calculus 2 and Linear Algebra course. These projects are designed to allow the student to explore an additional topic in more depth than we have time for in a typical course.

ASU School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences Peer Mentoring Program: For the 2019-2020 academic year, I was the Secretary and Mentor Training Subcommittee Member from the fall up through the start of the spring semester. I was also a part of the Mentor Training Subcommittee. Additionally, I was a student mentor for the 2018-2019, 2019-2020, and 2020-2021 academic years.
ASU Math Day: I was an activity leader in 2018 and 2019 for the ASU Math Day event. I led students through an activity on the card game SET, and helped with set up, clean up, and coordinating with the guest speakers throughout the day.
Cryptorally: I was a volunteer in 2018 and 2019 for the cipher-solving competition Cryptorally, assisting with the verification of answer submissions at the final check point.
Additional volunteer and committee work, such as Sonia Kovelevsky Day and AWM at ASU, can be found on my Diversity page.
Mentorship
In addition to my work on the Peer Mentoring Committee, I have worked as a mentor to students at all levels for the last decade. I still meet with undergraduate and graduate students across the country as part of their support networks for various needs.
As of 2023, I am working with graduate students on research, and as a mentor encouraging them through their programs.
I also work with a large variety of undergraduate students as they work towards internships, graduate school, or industry jobs. For the undergraduate students, I have supervised honors projects, done Zoom Interviews, helped them apply to conferences, and written letters of recommendation for scholarship programs, internships, and graduate school applications.
